ABOUT THE SP3i SPECIAL EFFECTS URETHANE COATINGS

All SP3i Chromashade and Prism Color Series products feature high performance urethane coatings containing special effects pigments. These pigments are comprised of unique, multi-layer flakes that give a coated surface the ability to change color when viewed from different angles. Each flake is created using a revolutionary thin-film technology and exhibits a wide range of hues depending on the angle at which it is viewed and the angle of incidence of light. The pigments are manufactured by vapor deposition of ultra-thin layered structures similar to those found in nature, such as butterfly wings and sea shells. The thickness of the layered construction (controlled to within a few atoms), causes interference of light waves which then produces different colors.
